Next Question (not quite so dumb): Since I’m mainly interested in burning DVDs, can I proceed on the assumption that the External Optical drive ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U will successfully burn my next masterpiece, even though I cannot view a DVD using it? (I think I already know the answer.) Does this mean my Mac OS X 10.6.8 cannot play a DVD? Pardon the dumb-soundingness of this next question. I’ve gone to Apple menu>About This Mac>More Info> then to the Hardware list, selected ATA to find “This computer doesn’t contain any ATA devices.”
